Error While Updating the Windows Defender Definition

I have WinXP Pro running on Dell Laptop.

Recently I have downloaded and Installed Windows Defender Beta 2, replacing
Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1.

Recently the application has prompted me to update the definitions. But when
I click on the Check For Updates it generates the following error message.

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update:
0x80240022. The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert %2
(Volume Serial Number: %3) into drive %1.

In windows Update history, for definitions update the error shown is
0x80244018

Also Windows Defender detects the WhenU.SaveNow adware, but when I want to
remove it, it generates the Error

Failed,0x80004005

The resource where it locates the adware is
D:\System Volume
Information\_restore{50D5CE8B-3639-4099-B797-F05E5AB41004}\RP282\A0062363.exe->(wise0028)

Please Advise what is the problem.

Hello Amit,

You probably have a free software program (e.g. a screensaver or filesharing
program) that you downloaded on the Internet. Since these popular software
programs are free for users to download, they need a revenue stream to keep
them in business. That's where SaveNow comes in. By including SaveNow with
their application, popular software applications can remain FREE — because
they are supported by WhenU ads instead of charging a user fee. Upon
downloading one of these free software programs, YOU OPTED-IN TO DOWNLOAD the
SaveNow software.

To uninstall SaveNow, follow these instructions:
Click on the Start Menu button
Click on the Settings option
Click on the Control Panel option
Double click on Add/Remove Programs
Choose Add/Remove Programs
Select SaveNow from the list of programs
Click on Add/Remove
Click on OK

Hi Amit,

Well Amit, I'm volunter and solutions to the problems came little by little,
as you know Beta don't have support, we are the support.

But you can use Submit it via the process noted in Windows Defender Help, or
here:
Report a possible spyware problem to Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/support/reportspyware.mspx

Also, on this days, we need 2 o 3 or more anti-spywares, all depend how
carefull we are going to sites. I sugest to Install Site Advisor

sorry, i do not have savenow entry in add remove program list. But my problem
is about Windows Defender Not able to remove the adware/spyware detected in
the system and to be frank your reply did not mention the solution to the
problem i have mentioned.

My point is why Windows Defender is not removing when it is able to detect
it? If I have to install any other spyware / adware removal tool then why
Windows Defender?

I already have Adware-SE Personal installed and executed many times. It has
removed whatever it could find and remove and it does not able to find
WhenU.SaveNow. So that leaves me with one program which actually finds it but
then it does not remove it.

So any solution to problem.

Moreover I am still waiting for definition update problem for which I have
mentioned the exact error message.

Hi Engel

Thanks for the advice. I have already installed the site advisor 3 days
back, as again a suggestion from one of the community members.

I see your point in having more than one spyware removal tool installed on
machine. I will definitely try to get a more reasonable one.
