Error when closing outlook

When I close Outlook 200 (whether by hitting "x" or exiting more formally), I
recently have been getting an error message.

Outlook appears to close, but then I get a message that Outlook has
encountered a problem and needs to close. When I click the link for more
information, a box pops up indicating the following:

Error Signature
AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.6604 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset3ff54578

I don't know whether this error actually makes any difference since I appear
to have closed out of Outlook by the time it appears, but I am concerned.
Does anyone have any suggestions.

Causing Outlook to take longer to open should be the extent of the damage.
but you can try a detect and repair - look on the Help menu - or rerun set
up (control panel, add/remove programs)

I had a similar problem before and my colegues have found blocked port by
the firewall (panda), so outlook can not check e-mail in some time interval
upon exiting. It was not POP3 , but DNS or something connected to local
network identification.
After adding a rule into firewall config this problem disappeared.
IF you think this is your case I could find more details for you.

Yes, I think this might be the case. My problem began around the time that I
downloaded Nortan Antivirus 2005 (which I don't think would have an impact)
and some kind of new version of Internet Explorer/desktop which just came out
(and I think might include a firewall of some type). So please provide more
information about your firewall problem/solution.

you need to configure the firewall to allow outlook.exe. look in the
firewall properties at the allowed applications - add outlook.exe or checked
the list of blocked applications to insure it's not on the blocked list.
