Yesterday I got a new wireless keyboard/mouse. I followed the instructions
for setting it up and when I turned the computer back on Windows started
giving me all kinds of error messages...those ones that say you can send an
error report...first it was for Windows Updater that it did that, then it
started doing it for other programs. I turned the computer off to restart it
and when it started back up I could hear the drives spin and then got the
error message "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert Boot Media in
selected Boot device and press any key. ". I've gone into Bios and can see my
hard drive is still being detected...I've played with the boot order, no
luck. I'm using a Compaq w/ Windows XP and there's no recovery CD's, only a
recovery partition, so when I try to boot into that instead of BIOS it gives
me the same error too. I've talked to COmpaq support which was just annoying
- the say some of my files got corrupted and they're sending me recovery
CD's. Of course when I asked why the recovery partition didn't work then they
couldn't give me an answer. I tried making a boot disk on another XP machine
I have - I just right clicked my A: drive and told it to format and MS-DOS
boot disk....when I put it in the affected computer it brings up the A:
prompt but everything i've tried to do it says "bad command" to .I've tried
"fixmbr", "fixboot"....I don't know what to do and I'm really upset!! DO I
need to make the disk differently? Is this something that's happened to
anyone before? Help me please!!

Your hard drive is in some way corrupted, and the Recovery disk being sent
to you are the ONLY way to work through finding out if it can be fixed by
you, or if you need replacement hardware
