when I start my computer the message "cannot start
windows because the following file is missing or corrupt
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe" appears. If I press
enter it sometimes windows runs as normal, but sometimes
the computer just keeps on restarting repeatedly. I'm a
bit of a novice at this so is there an easy way to sort
the problem?

check your hard disk for problems
start-->run
chkdsk c: /f
say yes when system asks you do dismount volume,
say yes when prompted to check disk at next startup and reboot
