ntoskrnl.exe

when I start up my computer the message "windows cannot start because file <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt or missing." If I press enter then it seems as though windows loads normally and I can carry on but it keeps on crashing. Any help on how to solve this pain in the ****would be much appreciated.

Joey,

In the recovery Console, change directory to the letter denoting your
CD-ROM, change directory to i386 and type the following

expand ntkrnlmp.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe

(This is supposing you have Windows installed on the C: Drive)

See "Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console"

Good luck
