Error on registry key access.

I am running WindowsXP SP2 Home. I was testing using the Google Chat
program and somehow I now have a corrupt permissions on a registry key.
When I open regedit I get the error: "Cannot open mailto: Error while
opening key". I think this is the problem but the symptom is that I cannot
set Outlook Express 6.0 as my default mail client. IN Outlook Express or
Internet Explorer 6.0 when I click on an email address
(mailto:[email protected]) my computer starts up 50 or 60 I.E. windows. I
have been perusing posts about that problem and it has led me to this error
in the registry. The permissions error seems to keep Outlook Express from
bing able to set itself as the default client. I select Tools->Options and
Make Default but it is never changed to be the default. I cannot manually
select the mailto key and set permissions because regedit says I can't save
any changes. I found a program or batch file a while ago that you can run
from a comand prompt and it resets the permissions for a registry branch but
I can no longer find it.

Any ideas how I can reset the permissions on this key without losing my
email store and such?

Thanks.

I found a program called DefaultMail that took care of the problem. No
worries.
