error "not in a recognizable format"

Your worst nightmare. All of a sudden when I try to open any of my excel
2003 workbooks I get this message-- "This file is not in a recognizable
format." All my files were created in excel2003. Nothing fancy and no links
or imported data. What happened and how do I fix this. My whole business is
on hold until i fix this.
Grateful doesn't even begin to describe how I will be. Dave Lanni
