Error messages on my lap-top

I am a complete novice and purchased a laptop from my employer a little while
ago - a Dell Latitute D600. I have wireless BT Broadband and just recently
have started getting error messages that pop up after booting up and logging
onto the net.

The first message is entitled: "MsnMsgr.Exe - Bad Image" and reads: "The
application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\xlibgfl254.dll is not a valid Windows
image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

Another one is entitled: "ybrowser.exe - bad image" with the same text. This
appears when trying to log on to the net.

Another is entitled: "YHiddenContentManagerWidow: ypager.exe - Bad Image
with the same txt.

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

The last two errors refer to yahoo messenger, I suggest you uninstall yahoo
messenger and reinstall if you want this application, also I suggest you scan
your system for mal/spyware,

Is there any software or antivirus installed on your computer giving this
error message or is it the system which is giving you this error message?

The best way to resolve this issue is to try these steps:

1.) Virus/Spyware/Malware test
Install some good antivirus, antispyware, antimalware utility and scan your
system for infections.

Good software are:
Microsoft Defender
Lavasoft adaware
AVG Antivirus
Spybot Search and Destroy

There are also some good online scanning utlities which can also help in
identifying and fixing problems related to viruses and spywares.

After scanning the system, quarantine the files which are infected and check
if your yahoo messenger and msn messenger are working.

2.) It is always a good idea to check your disks frequently

Do a chkdsk /f and check for had drive errors (This does not relates to your
issue but still I am giving you this suggestion as a best practice)

3.) Clear the temporary files nd perform a disk cleanup
Here is the method of clearing unnecessary files >

Delete Temporary Internet Explorer Files
Click start > run > Cleanmgr
and perform and disk clean up

Hope this resolves this issue

Kevin,

The MSN DLL error is a worm file.

You need to go into the registry editor:

Click START
Click RUN
Type 'regedit' (without quotes) & press OK

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

And

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Remove the value that says: 'MsnMsgr.EXE" (see the right pane 'DATA')

Leave it a few seconds, click in the right pane & click F5 (refresh) to see
if the entry has come back

In TASK MANAGER (CTRL ALT DEL | TASK MANAGER) you'll see on the processes
tab the MsnMsgr.exe running, END TASK it by highlighting it & clicking the
END TASK button

Reboot & see if that process is still running. If not, go to your SYSTEM32
directory & delete the 'xlibgfl254.dll' file.

The Yahoo File you have is part of Yahoo BT Broadband & is safe

You will need to scan your machine for viruses too

I hope this helps,

Also as a suggestion, do not run both msnmessenger and yahoo messenger at the
same time, they will conflict with each other.
use one or the other, at one time.

Not sure if you are doing this or not, just FYI.
Some good malware/spyware programs are Adaware, spybot S&D use the teatimer
addin, spyware blaster, and there are some really good free AV system scans
online.
