Error Message:

The video clips (.avi), the audio (.mp3), the digital pics (.jpg), effects,
transitions & titles all are imported into the storyboard / timeline. All
play satisfactory MM saves to .mswmm. I can retrieve the .mswmm file and
play.
Problem is I cannot save to My Computer or CD as a movie file. It starts and
gets to the duration bar and indicates 0% and the words tell me "Saving
Movie". I will leave or wait an error message says (in short);
Cannot Complete the Save Movie Wizard
Your movie was not saved successfully
not to specified location
original sources available
saving location are
disk space
I have this same message over the several attempts I made this week.
I made a previous movie & was able to save the movie to the computer. I have
not been able to save it to the CD. I had to convert the.wmv file to Nero so
I could get it on disk. Now I cannot even get the movie file to harddrive.
I have looked at this board and I reviewed the differences in what I had
done from this time to the last. One thing I did different was use .jpg
images and I followed a board suggestion to change to a bitmap. I only used
more transitions between each clip, I left that. I still have no success.
The files are all there, there are no red X's indicating missing items. The
location is my doc/videos (the same area that the project files go
tosuccessfuly) My HD has 18.5G I have 512m of Ram (I tried that Belarc) I
cannot tell how much is being used at any given moment.
The CD is 700m the file registers on the MM movie as 287.55m (about 23
min.).
I have the XP Pro V5.1 Build 2600.xpsp-gdr.070227-2254 service pack 2;
523,756 KB physical memory available. Windows Movie Maker V2.14026.0
Iwent so far as to remove the MS Plus Superpack for Windows I had
installed between project uses. Naught. The other thing that caught my eye
was to see if the .avi (container) files were compatible. Sounds like a lot
of work as there are lots of files. I tried .avi on the computer at work (no
no), movie no problem to My Computer directory. Just video (.avi) & audio
(.mp3 & .wma) files for 5 - 8 min.
HELP! I need this burned to disk by Sat., I would like to have it done my
home computer.

A long post with lots of info.... so I'll point you to an equally long web
page... my Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie page.

Do a test save by deleting all but the first 5 minutes of the project's
timeline... assuming you have a mix of the same kinds of source files as
throughout the project, it'll test your project complextity... how far in
percentage does it get? Watch your memory usage as it goes.

If it gets no further than with the full project on the timeline, then it's
apt to be the type of source file(s)... with conversion(s) needed.

23 minutes is a fairly long project and 1/2 GB of RAM a fairly low
amount.... but if your virtual memory is set at 1-1/2 GB, then you have
enough... just does it a bit slower.

I am on this task.

I trimmed it down to 5 min 46.01m with file mix. MM status bar went
active (first sign since I started this week) Estimated time 8 min (not at
all realistic) it took 30 min and it did 100% of the cut. I played the result
back on Nero, Windows Media Player and Real Player all paly off good.
The first major project effort I mentioned that I did a few weeks ago
save as ..wmv 169m (20 min). I really did not think there would be a problem
doing 3 times that amount - around an hour.

Being new to this , my concept of a movie time frame was (is) 1.5 - 2 hours
like at a movie theatre. I take it I should adjust my thinking on this ?

How do I find out about Virtual memory

Do a test save of the full project.... using one of the Pocket PC profiles.
They need to lowest amount of memory to render... and the rendering should
be fairly quick.

That would further confirm that all your source files are OK and it's a
complexity/memory related issue.

The highest quality file is DV-AVI and it needs less memory to save the
movie than a high quality wmv file... you might try it next. If you can save
it to that, then bring it in as a single clip and you should be able to make
any file you want from it.

For virtual memory settings... use Start > Control Panel > Performance and
Maintenance > System > Advanced tab > Performance Settings > Advanced tab >
Virtual memory - Change.... make sure your maximum is set to at least 1-1/2
GB.

I don't understand this. What is Pocket PC profiles

Save to a DV-AVI? I draw a complete blank at the rest of this?

Here I can report I increased the v memory from 756 to 1536. I tried a full
287M again no dice. I have went back input 3072

Skunked again, I turned on system monitor & the page/sec counter registers
in the 95 - 100 range & stays there the % CPU usage counter settles out to 50
I find when I go back to the v memory settings the dispaly tells me 756.
Even though I change & set the amount and reboot it does not change. I am
assuming it does not have the capability to do so & I am looking at some
serious memory upgrade. Is it worth it to make this run or is there something
else.

not to dampen your expectations, but more memory won't necessarily resolve a
memory-related issue. you could hit the same wall but just get there
quicker...
