Each time my PC starts up I receive a message....Windows
cannot fine "winlogin.exe". Make sure you typed the name
correctly and then try again. To search for a file, check
the start button and then check Search".

I did this but it can't be located.

How can I reload this function? What does this function
do?

"winlogin.exe" is a virus file. Your anti-virus software, probably cleaned
the virus from the system but left a reference to this file in the start up
menu.

Go to Start / Run and type: msconfig and press OK. Click the Start Up
Tab and look for a reference to this file there. When you find it, remove
the check mark from that line. Exit and reboot the computer. The system will
restart in "Selective start up" mode. Check the box on this message that
says "Do not show this mmessage again".

Go to the following website and download the file on Line 148, right column
"Clear disabled items from msconfig startup". Double click the file to
remove the item you unchecked.

Winlogin is part of a virus. If you are running a current av and it
found the virus and cleaned it, there is a bit left in the registry
still calling the virus at startup. Go to Start>Run and type "msconfig"
without the quotes. Look for the winlogin entry and uncheck it. BE VERY
CAREFUL NOT TO UNCHECK ANYTHING CALLED "WINLOGON". Winlog*o*n is a
crucial Windows file. If you are not running an av and what I've just
said is *not* the case, then you are infected. Get an av with updated
definitions and clean up the computer.

I get the same message when I boot. I followed your
suggestions, but couldn't find a winlogin entry. I did
get the blaster virus several months ago and cleaned it
up at that time. Since then I've been closing the window
after booting as a go-around, but would like to clean it
up. I cannot find winlogin entry in msconfig; I've
searched through general, system.ini, win.ini, boot.ini,
services and startup. I'm current with Norton Antivirus
& fully scanned. I re-ran the worm blaster fix from
Symantec (it says so worm was found), but still get the
winlogin error. Any other suggestions on how to remove
this?

Also, I'm now getting another popup window when I boot
up. It's a Desktop-notepad window that
says "[.shellclassinfo] localizedresourcename=@%
systemroot%\system32\shell32.dll, -21787" Is this
related to the winlogin.exe error? Any suggestions to
fix this, too? Thanks for any help.

You need to search in the registry for "winlogin" and delete it. Be
careful to only delete "winlogin" and *not* "winlogon"!
