When I shut down my computer and restart it, I always get
this message: Windows cannot find 'winlogin.exe'. Make
sure you have typed the name correctly, and then try
again. To search for a file ,click the Start button, and
then click Search.

Rich, this is the wrong answer. Winlogon.exe is a valid windows file.
WinlogIN.exe is not, and is a left over from a virus.

Deborah,

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look in the right pane for the value called Shell It should read
"explorer.exe" or "Explorer.exe" (without the quotes). If it doesn't,
your's probably reads "explorer.exe winlogin.exe", right click where it
says Shell and select Modify. Change it so that it reads "explorer.exe",
again without the quotes.

Then go to the following Registry keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Look in the right pane for any value that references the winlogin.exe file.
If found, right click that value and select Delete.
