Cannot find winlogin.exe. Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. This happens when you boot
Windows XP.

No it doesn't. It may happen when YOU boot XP :-)

This is a remnant of a virus. You need to look in the Registry. Click
Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

In the above keys, look for any value that references WINLOGIN.EXE If
found, right click the value and select Delete.

Then look in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Locate the Shell value in the right pane. It should read "Explorer.exe"
without the quotes. Yours probably looks like "Explorer.exe winlogin.exe"
If so, right click the Shell value and select Modify and change it to
Explorer.exe
