I'm having a problem with my XP SP2 system -- when I right-click on a file,
then left-click on "Open With..." in which is listed a number of
applications, then left-click on "Choose Program," I get the following error
message: " This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control
panel."
This error resulted from following instructions from a thread of this
newsgroup dated 2002-11-03 entitled "Notepad opens when selecting Choose
Program." Before carrying out the instructions of this thread I did get
gibberish in the Notepad. I removed Notepad from the key in the registry:
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\Shell\Notepad"
However, having done that I now get the error message. Incidentally, if I
click on the appropriate application, after r-clicking on Open With, it will
open corectly. Therefore, the program associations are OK. Only by clicking
on "Choose Program" do I get the error message.
Any suggestions?
