ALR

I have tried several different ways to get the XP to
recognize my camera, Fugi 3800. I have downloaded the
latest drivers from Fugi.

I get the following error message:
problem loading the hardware usb mass storage
an error occured during installation of this device. the
driver installation file for this device is missing a
necessary file. this may be becaause the inf ws written
for windows 95 or later.

what can I do to get teh system to recognize and load the
proper driver or even to recognise the camera as an USB
mass storage device?

thanks for any suggestions and help.

Hi Al,

Do you mean the FUJI FinePix 3800?

The reason the coming up is coming up as a mass storage device is because XP
recognizes most digital cameras as "external drives". Normally, you would
need to install the software that came with the camera and use if you want
to do some direct copying and editing of photos.

I'd recommend you get an xD card reader (assuming you mean the Fuji FinePix
3800) and not use the camera to copy pictures. You will find the reader is
faster about moving the pictures, as well, especially if you have USB 2.0 on
your computer. And you wont' have to rely on a battery charge from your
camera!

Speaking specifically in regards to USB storage devices, there is a
recommended update that might assist you with your issue. Here's the URL
that addresses the update:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822603

If you go to Windows Update, click the Windows XP link. On the Windows XP
updates page, look for "Recommended Update for Windows XP SP1 (KB822603) and
add to your updates. See if that updates addesses the current issues you
are experiencing.

Hope that helps!

Hi ALR
My brother has a fine pix 3088,he does not have to load any software or
drivers, windows just picked it up, works like a champ.
My wife and i have 3 fuji cameras, A101 , 2650 , A210 , the a101 win. picks
up the cam , the other two i have to install USB driver . I don't install
the software at all.
Great cameras.

Let me go ahead and clarify. :)

Carl is absolutely right. The Scanner and Camera Wizard should copy your
photos with no problem. However, it will display as removable drive on
Windows XP, not as a digital camera. This has been my personal experience
with my Sony, Olympus, and Canon cameras. As such, I have found using a
reader (about $30-50 at most stores that stock them) has been more efficient
and doesn't make me have to waste battery time on the file transfers.

My comment regarding installing the software is for other productivity tasks
not already covered by the Scanner and Camera Wizard. For example, Olympus
offers a software package that allows you to pull pictures straight off your
camera into a digital photo album software package that comes with their
camera.

The key issue that I see is to get your USB to recognize that you have a
working item plugged in. Which is why I recommend you try the Windows Udate
item.

Apologies if I didn't make myself clear in my previous posts! :)
