I am having similar problem -- I have 2 digital cameras & 2 separate
USB memory devices -- they are recognised in the system tray but
Windows Drive Manager does not allocate a drive letter and the drive is
not available in Windows Explorer. I have tried manually assigning a
drive letter in "disk Manager" but this does not help. I have no
network drives that could conflict with Windows assigning the next
available letter. FRUSTRATED!!!! NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!

Hi there

It seems that you are among the oldest memmbers of the USB issue and I was
wondering if you have fouynd a solution beyond reinstalling XP.

If you did then I would highly appreciate a feedback. I am introuble also
for quite a while and I am almost ready to reinstall but I don't like it.

Thanks a zillion.

Hi
I had this problem under a long time too and it made me crazy because on my
stationary PC I could use any usb memory stick but not on my laptop.

The solution is to start windows in Safe... and go in the " windows\inf "
directory.
delete the file "usbstor.PNF" then right click on file "usbstor.inf" and
choose install.
If you have problem with the camera, delete usbvideo.PNF and install
usbvideo.inf.
After restart windows in normal... and stop in the usb device and if windows
could not recognize it choose that you have driver and give the search way to
directory windows\inf.

I hope this will solve your problem.

This definitely did nothing. I tried it, and I my USB connections still are
having problems. When I plug in both my Sony Digital Camera and my iPod, they
are recognized in the system tray but are not in Windows Explorer. I need
help fast!

were are you plugging them into the motherboard or does your case have front
mounted plugs? I hada problem with any USB 2 device the board would pick it
right up and all was fine but the case would not. It knew it was there but
I could not use it. After months with MS and Sandisk it turned out to be a
Antec problem and I contacted them they hooked me right up (you get what you
pay for) now alls fine
