Error Message Printer is out of Paper - It is NOT

H

Using Windows 2000 PRO, SP4, with newly downloaded and
installed drivers for HL LJ 6MP, HP LJ 6L and HP LJ 1100
(Model C4224A), connected with various new printer cables,
either through a HP CD-Writer 7200e or directly connected
to the LPT-1 Parallel port, and Out of Paper error message
appears. No printer is out of paper, and all will do a
test page print. Nothing prints from a command prompt.
The CD-Writer works and reads cds and records on CD-RW
without a problem.

please post more detail info of each of printer and PCs.
so each printer connect to each stand alone PC's LPT1?
these pc's are Networked?
print test means on printer's print test or from printer properties test print?
where did you test from?
(Localy connected PC to printer or over network?)
alos what is exact error message?
all the printer's and PC's has same message and status?

here is one of HP CD-Writer 7200e and HP LJ5L/6L's issue

The message that appears in all connections, with all
printers with all different cables, reads:

There was an error found when printing the document "Test
Page" (or what ever other document that might be printed
from the PC) to LPT1:. The printer is out of paper.

Do you want to retry or cancel the job?

Retry (option block) Cancel (Option block)

This is a stand alone PC, not networked.

The error message appears where any of the 3 printers are
connected directly to the LPT1 assigned parallel port, or
connected through the HP CD-Writer 7200e unit. It is
designed to provide a bidirectional signal IEEE standard
for bidirectional printing. Remember, the same message is
received, when the HP CD-Writer 7200e is not in the loop.

Test printing from the computer, whether from the test
print through "Properties" from the (any of the 3) printer
Icons, from the various options to see the icons.

All drivers have been replaced with the most current
drivers from HP.

The LPT1 port has been deleted and reconfigured numerous
times.

A repair of Windows 2000 Professional has been done
twice. The service pack 4 has been removed and
reinstalled twice.

The printers will print a test page connected or not
connected, FROM the printer only.

All changes have been made with the computer OFF and
printers changed )obviously) from an unplugged condition.

The only situation that could have caused this situation
was the attempted install of Microsoft Critical Updates,
which by the way have not been successfully installed.

Symantec's Norton AntiVirus runs every night, and
LiveUpDate is active.

However, all tests have been done with all features of
this program were disabled.

Also, all tests have been done with no know applications
running or open but inactive.

I have disabled and unstalled LPT1 many times. The
settings are (at present)only: Imput/Output Range 0278-
027F with NO CONFLICTS. Automatic Selection is OFF.

Port Settings have been changed and tested in all modes,
during all reinstallations of Windows 2000 PRO and
reinstallations of SP-4.

I have changed and returned to default in all Bios options
in the "setup options".

The printers are NOT NEW, but all were working with
various workstations, including this one within the last 2
weeks. The 6MP was the principle printer for the PC. We
ran out of toner and put the working HP 1100 in place for
a project. It worked perfectly.

We finished that exercise, and printed some email
documents for Outlook Express. Then everything stopped as
far as printing was concerned. Out of Paper; then no
printer connected. Then changes to LPT1 occurred and,
numerous found new devices messages (All SCSI devices)
started appearing.

We stopped everything, shut every known application down,
and uninstalled every utility program not native to
Windows, Office, Diskeeper, Symantec, or Adobe.

We actually unstalled all Symantec programs, with their
help, other than WinFax Pro ver 10. We then reinstalled
it, updated it and ran a full test of the system and
scanned for viruses.

Nothing found, except for the One Button fixes routines.

I do notice one abnormality now. The mouse cursor, using
the scroll bar on the right side of the open (on top)
screen is irratic, and does not perform correctly at all.

Maybe just a coincidence, but I have found that in 17
years with these "toys" that there is no such thing.

Everything, including telephone line, DSL "modem", Fax
modem, all printers, EVERYTHING are connected to the
system through TWO UPS systems, with properly grounded
circuitry.

I reviewed your suggested site:
http://www.calgraphinc.com/Support/notes/554.htm, but it
does not seem to address my problem, once I eliminate the
actions previously taken numerous times. Basically this is
for dot matrix printers in line for usage in a DOS based
program. I do not believe I have any DOS legacy based
programs that I attempted to print from that would have
corrupted the LPT1 protocals. These corrupted files would
more than likely have been replaced during the
repeated "repair" installation of Windows 2000 PRO that
occurred.
