error message in xp

I get the following error message in windows xp only
after starting internet explorer.

C:\WINDOWS|System32\surte.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:053c IP:0182 OP:63 75 73 28 29 Choose 'Close' to
terminate the application

After closing the application, it starts back up in a
matter of seconds. This is only when I'm connected to the
internet.

What is it? How can I fix it?
