Error message at startup

E

Eric

When I switch on my computer, just after my desktop comes
on screen, a blue message box appears. It has a heading
which changes each time, e.g.714 or 6a0 or 770 or 73c.
This is then followed by :qttask.exe - no disc.
Below this is: Message - There is no disk in the drive.
Please insert a disc into drive \Device\Harddisc1\DR3.
If I cancell this 7 times, on the seventh time the box
disappears and I can then use the computer as normal.
Can anyone suggest the cause of this and how to fix it?
(I am running Windows XP).

Qttask comes with QuickTime and often stays after you uninstall QuickTime. I
could say it's one of Steve Job's gifts to the world, but personal attacks
are not allowed in this group.

If you have uninstalled QuickTime and are still getting this message, you
have to remove references to qttask from your registry. Backup your registry
before starting (by creating a restore point). You'll find references to
qttask in the 'run keys' of your registry.

Did I mention that you should create a restore point first? Just checking.
