error message -- 16 bit sub system not supported....

I am running XP without SP2. I have tried every, and there are several,
remedy for several games that the message says is 16 bit snd my system is NT
and will not run 16 bit / MS Dos progrms. None of the published fixes work
for me. There has got to be fix. OR rather there is a fix and it isnot
released or there is Not and won't be a fix. Help! 160gigs with AMD processor
for games that won't run.
