NTVDM 16-bit process failing to start after crash in XP SP2

W

WM

I'm running a program, Clarion 6, which until two weeks ago, worked fine.
However now, it will inexplicably crash the 16-bit environment without
warning or apparent trigger. Once crashed, no other windows 16-bit
applications can launch (including Clarion 6 of course). I have not yet
tested whether other 16-bit applications cause the same crash of NTVDM, but
I suspect they will all cause the crash. Interestingly, the 16-bit command
processor, COMMAND, DOES launch NTVDM, but I suspect this is handled
somewhat differently to 16-bit Windows apps, by XP.
Any clues as to what may be happening and how to fix it would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation,
Warren

Hi Warren,

I can't be certain of the cause of the crash, NTVDM errors can be
cause by missing or corrupted files in the 16-bit virtual
environment. One possible fix is to run the System File Checker by
opening a command window and running "sfc /scannow" (without the
quotes). You'll need to have an XP install disk and an SP2 install
disk handy.

Please let me know if this helps.

Regards,
Mike
