error message 0x800106ba

i updated my antispyware to windows defender and everytime i try to run it
it's giving me a error message saying " Application failed to initialize:
0x800106ba. A problem caused windows defender service to stop. To start the
service, restart your computer or search help and support on how to start a
service manually." i restarted my computer and redownloaded defender and same
error comes up when i try to run it.

1.- Stop and restart Indexing Service, using the following command lines:
SC STOP CISVC
SC START CISVC

OR

Start-> Run->cmd.exe
type NET START WINDEFEND

Sorry Engel,
I had the same problem, but could not resolved with your following
suggestions. I am running Windows Defender on windows 2000 server with
service pack 4 Build 2195 and downloaded the GDI+ dll as I found in Google to
install WD on 2000 needs GDI+. Still getting the same error 0x800106ba.....

Hello Mansi,

Be sure the GDI+ is located in WINNT/system32.
