Setup seems to work fine until finalizing install when I
get repeated errors saying unable to load driver for cdrom
and another for diskdrive. I was not aware there were
drivers for these devices. setup completes, windows does
not load, I get a millisecond glimpse at a bsod, and
reboot. I have a maxtor diamondmax 60gig hd I'm trying to
install to, and 98 on a smaller drive that remains
disconnected during setup. I'm flabberghasted, if that is
indeed a word. I'm doing a clean install with no intention
of using settings from 98.
AMD 751 chipset
ASUS K7M
390mb pc133 sdram
nvidia geforce on agp
smc ethernet adapter on pci slot 2
SB16PCI on PCI slot 3

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually failures to install stem from bad hardware. XP is far less
tolerant of borderline RAM than 98, for instance. I'd test your RAM and
then your hard drive. Just because the drive is new doesn't mean it
can't be faulty. Maxtor has a diagnostic utility that you will have
received if you bought the drive retail. If you bought it white box,
you can get the utility from their website. For RAM testing, I like
Memtest86, which you can get at www.memtest86.com.
