Toshiba Satellite 4025 cdt w/ XP Home hangs during cardbus insertion/removal

After upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home on my
Toshiba Satellite 4025 CDT, and installing a wireless D-
Link 2.4 Ghz Cardbus adapter, model DWL-650+, my laptop
experiences hang issues, whenever the adapter is
inserted, or another card, be it cardbus or PCMCIA modem
card. I suspect that it may be IRQ conflict with the USB
host controller (both set to IRQ 9), or an obsolete BIOS
within the driver set. I also made the mistake of trying
to install a Netgear 410tx card, before realizing it's
incompatibility with Windows XP. The hanging issue
started a couple of days after successful operation of
the D-Link adapter. The system will boot and load
normally, as long as there is nothing in the cardbus/pci
slots. If anything is inserted, the system freezes. If
I try to boot and load with anything inserted, the OS
never loads, just hangs. Please advise.

Have you checked that this laptop and the drivers are capable of running
XP? See
