error installing winxp

J

JW

when installing the winxp (home ed.), my IBM thinkpad
battery died and the install crashed. Now that I fixed
my battery issue, I get this msg: "error loading GDI.exe"
when retry the install. The thinkpad originally shipped
with win98 installed. any ideas?

I can boot to safe menu, go to DOS and find a GDI.exe
file in the c:windows\system directory.

JW,

I found this in the KB for Win98...it may help you with your issue

Restart from an Emergency Boot Disk or restart to Command Prompt Only
Copy a flat (Windows installation setup files) to the local disk and run setup.

To do this use these commands (if you have CD-ROM access): <modified>

c: <enter>
md flatXP <enter>
cd flatXP <enter>
e: <enter> <---Where E: is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive-this may be
different depending on configuration of the drives.
cd i386 <enter>
copy *.* c:\flatXP <enter>
