Try removing all USB devices. If you have a USB keyboard and your PC still
supports PS/2 keyboards then also remove the USB keyboard and use a PS2 then
try re-installing once all USB devices have been removed.

Hi John,
have unplugged all USB devices and plugged in PS/2 keyboard and mouse, but
still cannot get past the blue screen and the error message ***STOP:
0x0000005c (0x000001B,0x00000003,0x00000000,0x00000000), which comes after
the Post, then checks the CD drives and goes straight into the blues screen
and error.

Using a Rack and tray I can still, after putting the Winxp drive in, boot ok
to WinXp, and have put the Vista drive into a caddy, so I can access the
drive and contents, but just won't boot up to Vista when only the Vista Hdd
with the OS on it

Would it help if I formatted the drive and reinstalled Vista again
Thanks for you help
Regards
Bob

John,
one thing I forgot to tell you is that after I installed Vista, it was
running great, I updated my bios, come to think of it, it was after I shut
down, then booted up next day I had the problem, The bios updated ok. Only
I did not save the old bios. This means that if the bios it the problem,
some how do I need to get an older bios and flash itARegards

Glad you finally sorted the problem. I have to admit, as the problem
occurred after the BIOS update I was beginning to think that the BIOS update
was the cause of the fault.
