Error in .inf file, written for win 95 or later??!! please help!

Hi,
I am resetting up an ECS D6VAA dually with an onboard second IDE/ATA/RAID
controller, Highpoint 370. I am using WinXP pro SP2. I have had it up and
running before and now want to use it as a server, since it can handle eight
drives.

But, my problem is that I can't get the drivers for the controller to load
in windows. I get the message mentioned in the subject line. I have two
drives plugged into it now, just always used it as a second IDE controller.
The drives are seen by its BIOS at POST, I booted from my Western Digital CD
and it sees the other controller and drives and even reports the names and
sizes of these two drives.

I have had this working before, but why would win XP give me an error
stating that the .INF file(s) were written for win95 or later? I have used
the MB install disk as well as every driver I can find on the net with the
same result.

HELP, please getting desperate.

I know that board exists but I don't see it listed at the ECS site:

Perhaps you can find it and possibly a BIOS update and/or drivers that
work.

The purpose of the first two links, is to show what files existed back in 2003.

Manual page. FTP link is bad. ftp://ftp.ecs.com.tw/manual doesn't work.
http://web.archive.org/web/20030207214715/www.ecs.com.tw/download/manual_k7v.htm

BIOS page. Same problem. ftp://ftp.ecs.com.tw/bios/ doesn't work.
http://web.archive.org/web/20030415035756/www.ecs.com.tw/download/d6vaa.htm

The current download setup is different. This is what a link looks like in 2007.

http://www.ecsusa.com/DLfile/bios/mb/p4/P35T-A/P5A612A.zip

Ok, this looks promising. Making an FTP URL in the same form as the www.ecsusa.com
seems to work. These six BIOS files, might correspond to the entries on the BIOS
page above.

ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios

ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios/d6vaa10.exe
ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios/d6vaa10a.exe
ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios/d6vaa10d.exe
ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios/d6vaa10e.exe
ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios/d6vaa10f.exe
ftp://ftp.ecsusa.com/ecs/bios/d6vaa12e.exe

The manuals are here.

D6VAA

Dual socket S370
Northbridge VT82C694X www.viaarena.com 4-in-1 chipset driver
Southbridge VT82C686B www.viaarena.com look for ide driver packages
Audio - Avance ALC100P (Avance is now called Realtek.com.tw)
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...nn=3&DownTypeID=1&GetDown=true&Downloads=true
Perhaps something here will work. This is their driver page.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC

Now the tough part.

Disk controller - HPT370
http://www.highpoint-tech.com/ web site disavows HPT370, use web.archive.org instead

After much traversal, I end up here for HPT370. v2.351 is the latest driver here.
The second link is the one I downloaded.

http://web.archive.org/web/20040929061014/http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/b370na.htm
http://web.archive.org/web/20040929...IOS + Driver/hpt370/Win/hpt3xx-v2351-0105.zip

Abit has drivers for HPT370, up to version 2.34

ftp://ftp-usa.abit.com.tw/pub/download/drivers/hpt37x/

There is a thread here, which claims the ZIP file itself can have problems.

http://groups.google.ca/group/alt.c..._frm/thread/53a827dca3d9176a/3ee72cbb74718696

The Win_XP directory in the V2.351 package, contains hpt3xx.cat,
hpt3xx.inf, hpt3xx.sys, and hptpro.sys. The INF appears to want to
copy the two .SYS files. Maybe someone could have a look at that
INF file and comment on it.

The way these onboard controllers work, is sometimes the driver version
and the BIOS add-in module version have to agree. I don't know anything
about Highpoint products, and whether something like that would be an
issue with the HPT370. There might be people in the Abit motherboard
group, who know more about HPT370 and how to tame it.

Finding the board and drivers is hard, but they're buried deep in there. But
I have found it, and have the most current bios version and the drivers from
that site still give me the same errors.

Thanks, but any other suggestions, please?
