INF Error

Hi,
I can't get the drivers to install for the Saitek Cyborg Evo that I've just
brought. I have tested the stick on a secondary PC so I know there is not an
issue with the stick. The issue I'm having is when I connect the stick to the
PC via the USB. The hardware wizard runs and after a few seconds it display's
the following error message...

"The driver installation file is missing a necessary entry. This may be
because the INF was written for windows 95 or later."

I am running XP PRO SP2 on a HP T770 (15 moonths old) I have updated the
BIOS and Chipsets and stilll can't install. I have used several installation
methods including choosing the driver myself, letting it search it's self and
I've tried the drivers from the install CD along with downloaded drivers from
their site and the beta drivers from the forum.

When I try an download & install the driver using Windows Update I get the
following too:-
"Installation Failure

Error Code: 0x800F0219
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following
resources.

For self-help options:

Find Solutions
Windows Update Newsgroup

For assisted support options:

Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for issues related to getting
updates)"

Any help I can get at all on this would be greatly appreciated. I have
searched 'google' and I'm not the only person who has this problem, but there
doesn't seem to be a fix anywhere.

I have...I explained that up there ^^^^ In total I've tried 4 different sources for the drivers. It's not their drivers that's the problem. As soon as I plug the stick into the USB port the Hardware Wizard runs & I get that error message.

Then I too am puzzled...
have you tried another USB port?

Yep...tried every other USB port on the PC, including ones where I have other devices plugged in that are working. I really don't want to do a format as I'm not sure that that will fix it.

This can be because somebody tried to forcibly install a win9x or other wrong
driver on this machine.
Let somebody who knows how to remove tracks of the wrong driver
connect remotely and fix this.

Thanks PA...but I'm not aware of anyone having tried to force installation of
win9x drivers or anything else to that matter. How can I perform the task you
talk of myself or will I have to do a new Windows install ? Or are you able
to do this remotley yourself ?

Basically you need to find all bad INFs for that hardware ID and kill them.
But, if you never did this before, you can easily damage the system,
exaclty as with the regedit.

OK...so would a reformat work?
Im still confused as how this has happened...although a few weeks ago I
moved the PC and thought I'd pluigged all my USB devices back in the same
ports. However my keyboard wouldn't work so I had to spend a while messing
around till I finally got it working. This involved swapping it onto other
USB ports with other devices. I can recall the mouse then stopped and it was
a while before everything came back to normal.

Would this have anything to do with it and would everything be resolved with
a format?
