XP Home SP3 Workgroup.

Hi. I'm getting the following error in the application log and I have no
idea what to do with it. Please help.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSDTC
Event Category: SVC
Event ID: 4437
Date: 2009.6.14
Time: 2:44:33 p
User: N/A
Computer: HUTCHINGS05
Description:
The account that the MS DTC service is running under is invalid. This can
happen if the service account information has been changed using the
Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC). MS DTC service will
continue to start. Please make sure that the MS DTC service account
information is updated using the Component Services Explorer.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Thanks, Fred

Will that work for XP Home? It appears that that article is intended for
servers. I'm using a workgroup. I found comexp.msc, but it doesn't have
all the options that the article uses. I did look at
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC. It's there in the registry, but I have no
idea whether the registry keys are "appropriate" as they say, or what the
"provider information" that they refer to is.

Is this article relevant to my situation? This computer is in a workgroup,
not a domain.

Thanks, Fred

I have Windows XP Home Edition but my computer is standalone.

TaurArian used the expression "There's a hint here".

Select, Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, right click on
Component Services and select Properties. Open and expand Component
Services under Console Root, right click on My Computer, select the
MSDTC tab and click on the Security Configuration. What is the entry for
the DTC Logon Account?

The Error report seems to be saying the entry for the DTC Logon Account
is wrong.

Hope this helps.

Right-clicking My Computer only brought up a dialog with 1 tab that just had
the text My Computer. I couldn't get to MSDTC until I finally noticed a
button on the toolbar that said Configure My Computer. It appears on the
toolbar when I am in Component Services. Then I get the MSDTC tab and can
click Security Configuration. The account is NT Authority\Network Service.
This may be unusual: if I browse for an account, neither NT Authority nor
NetworkServices are listed. If I type it in by hand and select Check Names,
it tells me it doesn't exist in this domain.

My Component Services appears to be different from yours. The only entries
under My Computer are COM+ Applications, DCOM Config, and Distributed
Transaction Coordinator. Is this a problem?

My Component Services appears to be different from yours. - No mine are
the same.

Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and right
click on Distributed Transaction Coordinator and select Properties. The
StartUp
type should be Manual. Is it?

Select the Log On tab. Which option has been selected? Local System
Account or This Account? If this account does NT
AUTHORITY\NetworkService appear in the box and are there password
entries?

It is Manual and Started. The Log On tab has Local System Account.

I cannot say for sure but I think it should be the other option.

Verify
Use Registry Editor "on the server" to verify that the Microsoft
Distributed Transaction Coordinator service (MSDTC) registry settings
are appropriate.
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators,
or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To open the Registry Editor "on the server and" verify MSDTC registry
settings:
Click Start, click Run, and then type regedit. If the User Account
Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what
you want, and then click Continue.
Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, expand Software, expand Microsoft, and then
expand MSDTC.
Check whether the registry keys are appropriate. To check a registry
key, in the details pane, right-click the provider information that you
want to view, and then click Modify. You can close the dialog box
without making changes.
