Error Code 7

I have sent this question twice to MS support with no
result.

I am trying to install Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade on
a system that is currently running Windows 98. The
system loads all files then reboots the computer. When
it trys to restart, you get an error message that
says "Windows cannot find the file "SETUPDD.SYS". Error
Code is 7. Setup cannot continue".

When you skip past the message, when Windows starts, you
get a black DOS screen that is titled CLNRECOV. In the
DOS box it says CRECOVDEL.FM - File Not Found.

How do I get this program to load and how do I find the
Setupdd.sys file?

You have some hardware that is either damaged or incompatible with Windows
XP: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330181
Post your system details here, it might be obvious which component is the
cause.
