Hello:

I am troubleshooting dial up connection in windows XP.
The modem dials, verifies username and password and then
disconnects just as the "Registering computer on network"
dialog appears. It shows error 720.

check modem setting (compression, error control and flow control) and maybe
you can try to change port speed. you can try to one by one to disable and
enable those settings and see what happens.

Find out which protocols the RAS server is running.
Make sure that your client is running one of the same protocols that the RAS
server is running:
1.. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network
Connections.
2.. Under Virtual Private Network, right-click the VPN connection, and
then click Properties.
3.. In the VPN Connection Properties dialog box, click the Networking tab,
and make sure that you have a protocol that the RAS server is running.
If you do not have a protocol that the RAS server is running, add the needed
protocol:
1.. Click Install, click Protocol, and then click Add.
2.. Click the protocol that you need to install, and then click OK.
3.. Click Close in the VPN Connection Properties dialog box.
Thanks,
Sharoon
