I have tried every which way to uninstall reinstall, nothing is working. I
still get error messages on 4 out of five users. Has anyone resolved the
problem yet?
I have all of the above problems. Any help appreciated.

I think I have just solved my problem. I restored to 20th November, funny Beta
was not in program when I restarted, but I had been running previous version
up untill I got notice of up date. Anyway not up to speed with computers
enough to think about that, it had just gone.
I have downloaded the new Beta version from Microsoft and it is working fine
in all 5 users. Fingers crossed nothing will happen to it over night.

This is weird. Before, the errors only popped up when i was loading the game,
but now they pop up at around 100% when i uninstall and install. This is very
weird.

Im running XP Home.

Ok I decided to do some testing on this problem. So the original machine I
had the error on was windows Home sp2 virus adware free. I decided to test
with a clean install windows home sp2 with all the updates installed to try
and make this problem happen.

I created 2 users (U1 and U2) both admins. I then installed MSAS on U1 and
rebooted updated just like I was going to use it like normal then I
uninstalled it worked good.

Repeated process for U2. Same result. All good

Then I installed MSAS on U1 did all the updates and such, rebooted then
switched to U2 where I uninstalled MSAS from U2 this is were it gets
interesting. MSAS uninstalled fine no biggy.

Restarted logged into U1 and BAM ERROR 101, quitting.......uninstalled got
all errors but it did kind of go away.

Restarted logged into U2 and installed MSAS worded fine updated all that
jazz worked good on U2.

Restarted and logged into U1 bam error 101, quiting..... Obviously this has
something to do with users..

I did backup Reg. and tried deleting and removing and altering all before
mentioned methods to make it install properly on U1 but no dice on those....

I tried replacing Reg after a successful uninstall from U2 and still U1
would not install.

Keep in mind U2 can run software flawlessly and U1 not at all So I think
this is a bad programming Booboo but hey what do I know... :)

Has anyone managed to find a fix to this? I see that the ;atest version still
gives the same error. Short of re-installing Windows, I can't see a way
around this.

No sry JohnathanH I have not found a fix and Reinstall is only choice as of
yet....
However another product for spyware maybe used if you do not want to format...

Good Luck

Found that if I try to register the Dlls manually a Access Denied Error
occurs. Looking at where it error occurs at the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (HKCR) in
the registry if I attempt to access any of the keys related to Microsoft
AntiSpyware a "Error while opening key" error occurs. Now if we delete these
keys and reinstall it works. But, it won't let you remove the keys unless you
have the software still working under a different user. That user can remove
the keys from the registry. So maybe it is an issue with permissions?

Is there a way to change the permissions for those keys under HKCR? (Can not
take ownership of key.)

I cannot find the thread you speak of that explains why this happens. I
clicked on your link, and also pasted the address into my browser. I get
sent back here with no further threads. I have the same problem as the
others, where I can't access MSASW on 2 accounts, only one. Both have admin
priviliges. It works fine on mine, but not on my husband's and I've done the
uninstalls/reinstalls from both accounts.

Microsoft has released a new version branded as Windows Defender (Beta 2) on
2-13-06. This new version has a completely new UI and appears to have
addressed this issues described in this post.
