error 1606

when i try to install from a download, such as Acrobat Reader, the windows
installer program gets stuck and issues an error 1606 - could not access
network location \\server\sharedocs\mypicture\. all the suggestions to fix
such a problem aim me towards 'administrative tools', something that does not
seem to exist on my computer. this computer used to be a part of a network,
but no longer has access to it.

Fix the shell folder path for "My Pictures" and all should work fine.

Reset the Shell Folders paths to defaults:
