Error 1606 Cound not

I have a P3 that was running Win98 SE. I recently
upgraded it to XP pro. When I upgraded this system the
Palm desktop stopped working. I have tried to remove and
reinstall the application and I keep getting Error 1606:--

Deinstall Windows XP and return to Windows 98. Then install Windows XP
parallel to the old OS and reinstall your applications step by step in
Windows XP. When you are done and do not need Windows 98 anymore you
can now remove it.

The only problem I can see with de-installing xp to go
back to win 98 is I changed my disks to NTFS. Does win 98
support ntfs?

No, WIN98 does not support NTFS.

An easier possible solution is to d/load and run the Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility, and then uninstall/reinstall the Palm application:

No, it doesn't. Moreover if you've converted to NTFS, you have no
"de-install" option for XP. The only way to go back to Windows 98
is to format the drive and clean install it.

Moreover, reverting to Windows 98 to solve this problem me be
overkill. Have you contacted Palm to ask for a solution to the
problem?
