Error 1402. Could not open key

I encountered this error when trying to remove MS Office 2000 Premium under
WIndows XP:

Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OptionalComponents\MAPI

Can somebody help me? I've exhausted microsoft knowldge base center but no
success. ANy help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure you are logging in as an administrator. Then, look at the
permissions for the key in regedit. Give the users group FC of this
key and try the removal again. If that doesn't work, try deleteing the
key.
