Error 1068 with Computer Browser Service

I can't seem to to get the Computer Browser service started now. It keeps
failing witht the statement box....

Could not start the Computer Browser Service on Local Computer
Error: 1068 The dependency service or group failed to start.

Alright, I am stumped. Since the service does not allude to any dependences,
I can only assume that there is a corrupt DLL at the source of this problem.
But where to find a list of those DLLs.

Any clues as to what to do?

Ramesh,

I have Workstation service currently running. All its dependencies except
for Computer Browser Service ( Alert, RPC locater, NetLogon, Messenger ) are
also running.

Server service claims it is dependant on Computer Browser service running
and therefore is not starting either.

BTW, running XP Pro with SP2 if that helps.

Thanks,

Mr.Boo,

From Services.msc applet, double-click "Server" service and click the
Dependencies tab. There should be no dependencies. Computer Browser is
dependent on Server service, but not the other way.

I had a similar problem and ran across some info that says you need the
'Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing' service running to have the
Computer Browser service run.

This is incorrect. We have the computer browser service running on
several XP Pro boxen and do not use the Windows Firewall.
