Services - start failure

G

Guest

In Services I cannot start: A) Windows media connect. B) Universal plug &
play. They depend on each other, meaning their settings ( Accounts ) have to
be set
to be compatible to function. I've tried to no avail. These two errors come
up:
1068 ( the dependency group failed to start ) 1079 ( Account specified for
this service is different from the account specified for other services
running inthe same
process ).

When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

1.) Try setting the startup type for "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager"
service back to 'Manual'
2.) Try setting the "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" to logon as "NT
AUTHORITY\LocalService"
3.) Was a roxio product installed? uninstalled?
4.) Check that the file exists. C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe
5.) Seems a Windows Messenger problem.

Sorry, I probaly did not make myself clear, but I uninstalled Roxio already,
and found one item belonging to Roxio , in C:WINDOWS\System32 laass.exe, and
i want to know if I could or should delete from here ? Do you think possibly
that these 2 services are not
accepting my password ? And as for setting accounts in these two, how many
possi-
bilities are there ?

Thanks,

Did you mean C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe ? If so this is normally a
windows file that is an integral part of windows security. Though it's
possible that it got replaced by some malware. Why did you think it was
associated with roxio? You lost me with the second question.

| Sorry, I probaly did not make myself clear, but I uninstalled Roxio
already,
| and found one item belonging to Roxio , in C:WINDOWS\System32 laass.exe,
and
| i want to know if I could or should delete from here ? Do you think
possibly
| that these 2 services are not
| accepting my password ? And as for setting accounts in these two, how many
| possi-
| bilities are there ?
|
| Thanks,

No, in C:\WINDOWS\System32, there is a file pertaining to ROXIO. It is a text
file.
Should/could I delete it ? In the second question, when you right click the
app. in
services, it opens a dialog box and in this box, click the tab "LOG ON",
here you
will have to choose the proper account and submit your password ? Also theses
services in question, do they affect CD burning ? My program is "NERO". Now
as I
click on any service, this message is given "Configuration manager, the plug
and play service or another required service is not available".

I can't imagine why the roxio installation would replace
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe with that of a text file. This does not sound
right at all.

Given the issues I'd think seriously about starting over with a clean
install.

No, Roxio did not replace lsass.exe file, it is in addition to, located in
the C:\WINDOWS\System32 Folder. It refers to text.

You can't have two files with the same name in a given directory.

Dave: Thru process of elimination I found the following to be true: Error 1068
includes these services: Logical disk mngr.-Messenger-Remote access-Smart
card-
Telephony- Windows audio- Windows media. ( THEY ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN
COMMON ) ?
Error: 1079 - Plug & Play-- Universal plug & play. ( WHICH ALSO HAS SOMETHING
IN COMMON WITH THEMSELVES, BUT ALSO WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE ) ?

Please note: In the past I always had to go back and restart "TELEPHONY".

There doesn't seem to be much continuity in this thread.

I still stand by my recommendation that you should backup and clean install.
