error 0X800CCC92 - the plot thickens!

Windows XP MCE, Outlook 2003 SP2

I wrote earlier about how I keep getting error 0x800CCC92 about my username/
password being rejected whenever I try to download messages from my pop3
server. Please believe me when I say it is not my username/ password, smtp
or pop server settings, secure authentication, smtp logging in, or port
numbers. I have been through them on this and other computers enough to know
that they are right.

I've found out some interesting stuff though:
a) Outlook Express works fine using the same settings.
b) if I go to a different user account on my XP machine, that account's
Outlook runs fine - even using my own mail account configuration
c) back in my own user id in windows, Outlook runs fine when I click on
"check account settings" in the mail account I created - including logging in
to the pop server and sending via the pop server. It is only when doing a
real "send/ receive" that I get the error.

So it appears that there is a problem specifically with the local Outlook
settings or files in my XP account, or maybe the registry? I have already
removed and reinstalled Outlook but that does not seem to affect local
settings. I have also deleted and recreated the .pst files.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks for your reply, Diane. Yes, I have made another profile - did it again
now just in case.

Still get the same error. :-(

So I took the easy way out -

I created a new user account in XP. Outlook works in that account and it did
not take long to transfer favourites, documents and desktop over from my old
account. Now everything works and I have deleted my old XP user account.
Yeehaa

It seems like a bit of a pain to do that, but it was a lot shorter to do
that than the time I've spent trying to fix Outlook so far!
