Erratic mouse caused by screen resolution change

In the original setup I had 1024x768 screen setting. Everything worked OK.

At some stage I decided to check if 1280x1024 screen is better for me. I've changed it, it works OK, but I did not like its appearance, fonts and pictures were too small for me.

I have changed screen setting back to 1024x768. After that my mouse mecame erratic: cursor jumps by approx. 5 mm leaps instead of moving smoothly, both right and left mouse clicks mainly ignored (occasionally after a number of clicks something might happen)

I have reset mouse, that did not help. I have restarted computer (power-down, then power-up), that did not help. Somehow I've managed to checked mouse setting (it was hard because mouse did not work properly), it did not help.

Then I've decided to change screen resolution to 1280x1024 again. Surprisingly, it did help, mouse worked OK. Then I've checked all other screen settings. It appears that now mouse is erratic only when screen is set to 1024x768, with all other screen settings mouse works OK.

I've downloaded and installed the lates WinXP update, that did not change mouse behaviour.

Check with the manufacturer of your mouse. Perhaps there is information
there and/or find a forum of the same. Good luck!

This has to do with Buffer Overrun for the mouse. The
problem can be fixed in such way. You open the property
for the mouse in Device Manager, search for an input field
with caption that reads sort of '...Buffer Size...'
increase the initial value (default is 100) with the
adjacent spin button say to 160, and your computer
restarts. The erratic behaviour of the mouse pointer will
surely be SOLVED INSTANTLY!!!
