Erratic Loading of Trend Micro PC Cillin

L

Lenny

I've got a Dell Dimension 8100 with 256MB RAM.
Been running PC Cillin on it for a few years now.
Recently, when I boot up the machine, PC Cillin doesn't fully load at times:
the icon won't show in the System Tray.
Everything else seems to load though.
When I bring up the Task Manager, it seems that all, except one, of the
required Trend processes loads.
If I manually run PC Cillin from the Start menu, the program comes up, but I
cannot run a scan or update.
Finally, when this happens, I can't run my mail or browser programs either.
When I click my Firefox icon, it just hangs forever and does nothing.
So, I basically have 2 questions:
1- When PC Cillin doesn't load fully, am I still protected from viruses? I
have a feeling that I am, but I still have the problem with my browser and
email programs.
2- How do I fix this?
Please make your explanations as simple as possible as I'm only barely
computer literate. : )
Thanks all.

According to their support page the antivirus and firewall is logged on to
Windows, even though the icons don't show.

You could try reinstalling the program, and BTW are you using the latest
version of PC-Cillin (for the present year)?

Thanks, that partially answers my question.
At least I know I'm protected.
I am running the latest (2007 PC Cillin) and have re loaded it about 3 weeks
ago.
Any ideas what's happening with my mail and browser programs?

No, frankly I haven't, and I can't give you any other advice than to un-
and then reinstall the program. You aay have received a faulty update.

I ran PC Cillin for about a year on a Windows 98 machine, until I decided
that paying money for a full update each year wasn't worth it. So I
switched to Grisoft AVG Free and have been happy with that. If you want to
continue using PC Cillin, go ahead, but a smaller, less bloated (free)
program will suit most users' needs, provided they surf and use e-mail with
the necessary circumspection.

When it does not fully load, AND you are not getting updates; NO, you are not
fully protected.
You are only protected up to the last date your program was updated to.
New viruses are written every day; and you are not protected against them.

Uninstall it, then reinstall it.
