Erase cache or delete DB?

Don

Running IE6 SP1 on an XP SP1 system with all patches up to SP2. When I
click File | Open in IE6, and type the letter a, a bunch of
Autocomplete entries are suggested. Some are websites, and some are
files local to the system.

When I untick the checkbox in the AutoComplete Settings dialog box
that appears when you click the AutoComplete button on the Content Tab
of Internet Options from the Tools menu, the autocomplete entries are
no longer suggested.

When I put the checkmark back, however, those same suggestions are
suggested again.

Where are those suggestions stored, so that I may go there and delete
them? In a registry key? A hidden DB? Thanks.

Hi,
Clear the History from Tools> Internet Options> General.

Remaining entries might be in the registry in a TypedURLs key:
157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
For an easier, safer removal method, go to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
and download "DelTypedURL." This INF file will remove ALL entries.

These two freeware programs will remove SOME or ALL entries:
IE Address Bar Editor: http://www.freesoft.fsnet.co.uk/ieedit01.htm
EditURLs: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm

You might need to delete the History folder to remove stubborn URLs- a new
History folder will be created on restart.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

For additional information see:
217148 - How to Use the AutoComplete Feature in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=217148
Hope this helps,
Don
