AutoComplete Failure - ProtectedStorage Registry Gone

D

David Kusumoto

Well, I goofed. I stupidly deleted the Protected Storage
Key on Windows XP registry to remove the AutoComplete
forms and password entries on IE6 (I had too many).

Now AutoComplete is gone "forever." IE6 keeps asking me
if I want to remember a password entry and when I click
yes, the next time I use a form and hit the tab key to
have the password box automatically fill itself, nothing
happens.

Any ideas; I couldn't even find the re-install feature on
my original operating system software associated with
pstore.exe file (missing from my recovery CDs).

Help!

David,

Option 1: Perform a System Restore rollback
Option 2: Create a new user profile and copy user data to new profile. [HKCU Protectedsystem storage is recreated]

Ramesh,

Thanks so much. The System Restore rollback worked! Now
I have to figure out (and I'll repost a new subject about
it) why under Internet Options/Content/AutoComplete, I am
unable to clear AutoComplete History so I can "start
over" without deleting the Protected Storage registry.

Presently (and this was why I originally "tampered" with
the registry and lost the Protected Storage key until you
rescued me), all attempts to "clear forms," for example,
results in a perpetual "hourglass hang" before IE6
finally stops responding and then crashes.

Any ideas again?

David,

YW. Stopping the Protected Storage service and try clear Forms & Passwords. Might work, worth trying..
