Asus S5N Notebook
WinXP SP2
IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

Problem: Tools/Internet Options/Content/AutoComplete/Use AutoComplete For:

-Web Addresses (checked)
-Forms (checked)
-User names and Passwords on Forms (checked)
-Prompt me to save Passwords (checked)

Whenever entering data in any Form or Password dialogue field, I
DO get a prompt asking if I want AutoComplete to save. I select YES,
but never once has IE6 on this particular PC ever saved the password or form
data? Same with Web Addresses in IE6 Address Box?

Have multiple WinXP SP2 IE6.0 PCs at home (desktops and laptops) and
AutoComplete functions perfectly on these. Checked MS Knowledge Base for
cause/solution but none of the articles really apply to my particular
situation.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas/fixes? Something in the Registry?
Thanks!....Tharsis

For your usernames and passwords not storing, make sure the Protected
Storage service is running on your system, and unregister/reregister
rsabase.dll - per Method 2 and Method 3 under the Resolution section of this
article:

AutoComplete Does Not Save Username and Password
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306895

As for registry entries, these are the keys involved where the info is
stored, but as you will see they are encrypted.

AutoComplete, User Names and Passwords on Forms:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW

AutoComplete, Web Addresses:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System
Provider\<user name or windows logon name>

Right click on them and choose Permissions. Check to see if, for the user,
a "Deny" box is checked.

Also check these registry entries for a "FormSuggest" entry and delete or
set the value to zero -
User: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Control Panel]
System :[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Control Panel]
This key with a value of one will disable Autocomplete for forms.

If no joy, create a new User account and see if that works on the trouble
machine.

As for web addresses not autocompleting, in IE go to Tools...Internet
Options...Advanced tab, Browsing section and also check "Use inline
Autocomplete", click Apply, click Okay.

Autocomplete for web addresses relies on the index.dat super-hidden file in
your History folder. From another account w/ admin. privileges, delete the
History folder from the troubled profile. More info:

Hi,
Try this:
With no programs open,
Run REGEDIT and make your way to this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW]
Export that key (Registry> Export- just in case you wish to undo the
change) then delete it- just the SPW key.
Restart the computer.

Look for "Autocomplete" on this page
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_a.htm

If you type addresses into the Address Bar, are they retained? That's a
different process than form or password autocomplete.
