I am near to tears over getting my printer to work. I am linking it directly
to my PC, which has XP, I have bought a new USB lead for it which did'nt
rectify the problem, I have taken the printer back for a replacement but
still no joy. I am installing the software via EPSON's CD-ROM, it gets to a
certain point where it asks me to plug in he USB lead and switch on the
printer then the CD-ROM program says it can is not recognising the printer. I
have downloaded all of the software from the EPSON website, no joy.
Unistalled all the EPSON software completely and gone through it all again,
simply plugging in the printer to the PC the USB connection is being
rcognised by the PC try printing nothing, load the CD-ROM which works,
printing wont work, downloaded the software again, still no joy. I have tried
everything I can think of, the printer is compatable and I have enough space
to take the software. Please can some-one out there help me, Simon Hope,
Somerset. Thanks for taking your time to read and help.

Do other USB devices work correctly on your PC?

Is the USB port on a hub.... or on the motherboard... if on a hub, is it
powered or unpowered?

I am having the exact same problem installing my Epson Stylus CX3800. Anyone
out there have suggestions. I have done exactly the same thing as Simon.

All usb ports work (tried other hardware to make sure). USB port is directly
into my computer...even bought new usb cord just incase. Just keeps saying
"printer not found". Scanner does work, I scanned a picture to my computer
just to see and it worked fine.

I have 2 other devises that work fine, I have used those ports on h PC for
the printer. I'm not too tech minded, there are ports at the back of the PC...
Thanks for you help, Simon.

My other 2 devises work on the ports I have plugged the Printer to, I will
try scanning something now. Thanks, Simon.

I just reinstalled an old C60 that I had in the basement. As soon as I
plugged the usb cord into the printer my computer automatically said "new
hardware found" It installed it and it works perfect. So obviously this is a
problem with the printers. I am using the same USB cord for both printers.

Its funny you saying that because, I tried using my Fathers computer to load
the software, he also has the software you mention, although my printer did
not work the installation seemed better. I tried loading his software at home
but no joy. Will try again this evening. Thanks

Hi Simon; This is the latest email I received from Epson:
Once I looked under USB like it says to I noticed the USB printer driver had
a yellow exclamtion mark which means it is not responding properly. So I
right clicked on it it and followed the onscreen instructions that said look
for new or updated driver and it found the proper one needed for the usb
connection. I hope this helps you it helped me and my printer is finally
working....woo hoo!!! Only three days and seven emails to Epson.

Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.

Disconnectall other USB printers before you begin.

Check to see how the printer is listed in the Device Manager.

1. Click START/CONTROL PANEL.
2. Click on PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE.
3. Click on SYSTEM.
4. Click on the HARDWARE tab.
5. Click on DEVICE MANAGER.
6. Select VIEW DEVICES BY TYPE.
7. The printer should be listed under "UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS" as
USB Printing Support.
If it is listed under "OTHER DEVICES" or something else, it is not
installed correctly.

I have tried two different makes of all in one printers (Cannon & Dell) and
although the installation is apparantly successful there is no "no
communication" with the printer when I try to print
I have just been through the Epsom recommendation posted by MrsMoly but the
Printer is not listed under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" which lists 2
USB Open Host Controllers, 1 USB Enhanced Controller and 3 USB root hub - all
apparently working properly. The printers are not listed anywhere else in
Devices by Type.
Be interested to know if the Epsom recommendation solves your problem and
hear from anyone else with a possble solution.
