Epson Scan doesn't get to start (Epson 3170 XP)

Every time I try to run Epson Scan , I get the message Escndv.exe has
encountered a problem and needs to close, therefore I can't use my
scanner.
The molesting file seems to be esui.dll. I would appreciate if someone
knows the answer to this riddle.

P.S. I have a Epson pefection 3170 photo on Windows XP.
 
Have you gone to the Newsoft site and tried some of their suggested
remedies? It is my understanding they wrote the program for Epson. I think
the site is www.newsoftinc.com
