Epson scanning software and descreening

My current scanner is an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo. I am not a
professional and generally scan photos but occasionally I need to scan a
printed image. Every other scanner I've owned has always had a descreening
feature in their software to reduce the speckled look you get scanning
printed material. I cannot find anything on the Epson software (I'm using
the professional mode) with which to descreen. Am I missing it or does Epson
not bother with it? I know I had to look for it in my Canon software but
I've been through every option with the Epson software and can't find
anything. Thanks.

Hi Pam...

I have a 3200, which can't be all that much different...

The original EpsonScan that I got on CD with the scanner didn't
have that option, but after I upgraded it (free) from Epson's site
I do have.

It's of course only available in the reflective mode.

And in just in case you do have it now but haven't noticed,
there's more available that's sort of not too obvious.

Just to be sure, start it up reflective, look at the four icon's
at the bottom. They appear to be, but aren't the bottom of the
screen. Check the elevator bar on that form, there's more below
(OR will be after you upgrade) There's USM, dust removal, noise
reduction, and de-screening options :)

Take care.

Thanks, Ken. I switched from Professional to Home mode and there was a
descreening filter there. Although I have to say, it looks no different
from the scan I made without descreening. My Canon software did a much
better job descreening than the Epson. I'm a little disappointed in that
feature but it does do a great job with regular photos. I did upgrade to
the latest software on Epson's site.

I have the 3170 Photo and using version 2.65A of the Epson software in
Professional mode the descreen option is there. There are four descreening
levels to choose from. Click the "-" minus sign next to the Descreen Filter
check box to see the dropdown option list.
