What you may have to do is this: Uninstall all of you USB devices and then
have Windows redetect all of them. What this will do is uninstall all USB
"root hubs" and any devices connected to them. Since all USB devices
connect to Windows XP through one of these "root hubs" you will effectively
uninstall any hidden drivers. Any corrupted installs will be removed as
well.
Do this as follows...
1) Turn off your USB devices (the scanner).
2) Goto, Start/Control Panel
3) Double Click on System
4) Goto, Hardware/Device Manager
5) Uninstall all devices under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
6) Reboot, and let Windows redetect all devices (keep printer turned
off).
7) Install print driver software (follow its instructions).
