If your Epson is a USB printer, you also need to remove the Epson USB device
driver. My Epson Color 880 printer show this under the "Universal Serial
Bus controllers" device type as the "USB Printing Support" device. You my
only be able to see it when the printer is on and connected. You may also
need to boot in safe mode to see it.

Remove this and the Epson drivers before trying to reinstall the software.

Before I can tell you how to do this: What operating system do you have
(Win98, NT4, 2000, XP, etc.)?

OK, to do this with windows XP do the following...

1) Plug in your printer and turn it on.
2) Cancel out of any install wizard if one comes up.
3) Goto, Start/Control Panel
4) Double Click on System
5) Goto, Hardware/Device Manager
6) Under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" look for "USB Printing
Support". Delete this by right clicking on it and choosing "uninstall".
7) Turn off your printer.
8) Re-install your printer software by following the Epson instructions.

In device manager it shows two standard OpenHCD USB host
controllers" and two USB Root Hubs but cannot see USB
Printing

How many other USB devices do you have (for example: camera, card reader,
etc.)?

What you may have to do is this: Uninstall all of you USB devices and then
have Windows redetect all of them. What this will do is uninstall all USB
"root hubs" and any devices connected to them. Since all USB devices
connect to Windows XP through one of these "root hubs" you will effectively
uninstall any hidden drivers. Any corrupted installs will be removed as
well.

Do this as follows...

1) Turn off your USB devices (the scanner).
2) Goto, Start/Control Panel
3) Double Click on System
4) Goto, Hardware/Device Manager
5) Uninstall all devices under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
6) Reboot, and let Windows redetect all devices (keep printer turned
off).
7) Install print driver software (follow its instructions).
