Epson Perfection 1200U

Hi,

I am using an old scanner, Epson Perfection 1200U Photo to scan my
MF negative (trying to save some money since the output is acceptable
to me). I find that there are thin red lines running across the scanned
Photo. Can anyone help to advise what should i do to remove the thin
red lines? I have tried to clean the CCD, but after a few scan, the
lines are back again.

Another question, as I have open up my scanner, I discovered that
the heart of the scanner is small PCB attached with the CCD. Can I jsut
replace the PCB of later model, with higher resolution to get a higher
resolution scan (Provided the mounting are the same)?

With the price of flatbed scanners today, I do not see how it would be
practical.

You can get good flatbed scanners with MF transparency adapters built in for
around $150. USB 2 and much faster scan.

I have a Canon CanoScan 8400F that does a fine job of scanning MF film.

Lines may indicate sensor failure.
Check the Epson web site for refurbished models: there can be excellent
values and they carry the same as new warranty. I have purchased two
scanners from Epson like this without any problems. Maybe I was lucky.

Thanks for your advise. The issue is that I only about 100 MF
negatives, which was my wedding photo, to scan. So Just to buy a new
scanner to do the job is not quite worth the money. So, I am thinking
of cheaper alternative.

Thanks. Unfortunately, there isn't such a service in Singapore. Most of
the time, they are selling new items. No such thing as refurbished
models. B(

Try to carefully clean the scanner glass in place of the calibration
area of the film holder (the "unused" rectangle hole in it). This
scanner is very sensitive to dust particles there, resulting in the red
lines. You may want to remove any dust from the glass of the lamp as
well.
