Epson CX3200 (MFD) un-clearable paper jam error

My Epson CX3200 shows immediately on startup an un-clearable paper jam
error. All attempts to clear this have failed - there is no paper
anywhere (that I can see) in the paper feed path.

I understand that there is a small sensor device somewhere within the
paper feed path but I cannot see it. I have the Service Manual but
can't see where it is or how to fix it.

I gather it's a common problem with these printers.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This can be caused by anything obstructing the carriage area, like a
paper clip or small scrap of paper. The other reason this may occur is
if the lubrication for the head carriage becomes sticky or dried out.

Usually to correct this, check the rails or guides that the head
carriage rides along, and clean them with a lintfree cloth. Then
replace the removed lubricant with an appropriate type of lubricant
(3in1 or sewing machine lightweight machine oil for oiled contact
points, a lightweight lithium grease for greased areas.

Thanks for your reply. I eventually realised that this was not a
trivial problem and set about dismantling this printer/scanner (not a
simple matter) and located the problem - the little plastic catch/
senor is under the ASF. One end of the hair spring that pushes the
small black plastic sensor down into the paper path had somehow come
off the end of the plastic where it was supposed to be - it was a
matter of gently getting it back onto the small arm of the sensor. And
now it works.

But as the printer was out of action for a long while and as the head
was not in the park position (!) the ink in the head had dried solid.
So I also took off the print head and gently cleaned it with cotton
wool soaked in distilled water. It is printing but so far the colours
are rubbish. Will this get better? Any suggestions for Epson print
head cleaning after a long period of idleness would be greatly
appreciated. Are the print head cleaning cartridges any good - I could
flush out the dead cartridges that had been in the printer and fill
these with cartridge flush.... Would that be good?

Thanks for the update on the cause of the problem. Good to know what
happened.

Ic an supply you with a copy of my Epson Cleaning Manual free of charge
which will probably provide you with the necessary info to clear the
clogs you are not running into.

Send me an email with some details about the problems to:
