Epson C62 ink

First a complaint and then a few questions.

The complaint: Is it just me, or does the ink cartridge get used up
really fast? After 10 days of moderate use (about 200 pages total
printed, and that is almost entirely half pages of text) the cartridge
is half empty. I think the BJC 2000 cartridges lasted longer than
this.

The questions:

Why is there such a big price difference on the web for the cartridges
sold by Epson versus the "Espon-compatible" cartridges? $28 vs $8?
Do these cheapies have the chip and everything?

Is there a reputable web dealer for these that doesn't spam, advertise
with popup ads, or use other sleazy tactics? I need a US business.

As far as physical, walk-in stores go, is one chain any better than
the others n for buying the compatible cartridges, for when I need one
right away? Office Max? Best Buy?

Thanks for any answers I get. I have attempted to find this out on my
own with Google, but the Google web search gives hundres of
businesses, and there are too many posts to newsgroups with .sig files
mentioning C62 for me to find a useful answer.

Is this your first cartridge? If it is then the first cartridge goes faster
because it has to prime the system. If it isn't do you leave the printer on
all the time? If you do every time you go to print it runs a cleaning
cycle. The longer it has been sitting there waiting to print the longer the
cleaning cycle will be. To conserve ink leave the printer off till you need
to use it.

I don't think your ink useage is excessive. the C62 is an ultra cheap
printer - and it's not impossible to conclude it is an invitation to buy ink
rather than a better design printer.
I market JetTec in the UK and send quite a few to the USA and don't believe
(even though the JetTec cartridge seems fuller) that say 300 pages is bad
news. But of course the prices differ.

Piggy-backing on my post so I can reply to posts that haven't shown up on Google.

Ah. I read that in the installation instructions then forgot all about it.

Thanks, I have been leaving it on. I was hoping for helpful hints like this.

I guess I'm not surprised. I see now we should have done more research.
