Epson 3170 Scanner and Copy Utility Problem

I was wondering if anyone else that uses the Smart Panel Copy Utility with the
Epson 3170 is experiencing "super slow" processing. In monochrome mode a
regular b&w text document can take 5 minutes to process/print. Basically the
software is unusable. My system is a P4 3Ghz coupled to an HP Laserjet
4000(17ppm) laser printer. I does not appear that Newsoft has a patch released
for this problem. Actually, the entire Smart Panel software is very buggy.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Is there any other scanning software
that will work with the 3170?

Have you tried just using Epsonscan in Home or Professional mode and just
bypassing Smart Panel? Smart Panel is just an overlay that relies on
Epsonscan underneath. Go into reflective mode, then use best quality, 300
dpi and possibly text enhancement. You will also need to manually crop your
page to make sure you get the size you want (and not blank/black areas).
